April 15, 2020 at 22:26 #26689João de Almeida FarrachoParticipantHi,
i have been thinking about the drag of the propeller. It seems it is likely to drag a bucket from stern.
I believe there is only room for a feathering prop due to limited rudder clearance About rope cutter I have no idea yet.
Does anyone have a folding / feathering propeller?
Thanks.
Kind regards,
João

I’m taking care of the same with Conche. That’s a very good question indeed and I’m curious to listen about solutions we’re using too.
I’m a recent owner and have not implemented so far a cycle maintenance.
But I’ve set already the 3 Zinc anodes I think to be a solution.
1) Zinc anode next to engine’s heat exchanger. This one should be checked and substituted regularly.
2) Zinc cup bolted to propeller nut . This one protects propeller and I believe it lasts less than 10 months on our case.
3) Large zinc fixed with trough hull bolts. Then two 10mm copper wires run from the bolts to link engine block and stern gland ( stern tube greaser system)
4) Finally the shaft has a flange and there is to link with a copper wire the two sides of the flange if it is insulated type.
This is what I have in mind.
Kind regards,
João

can you please post some pics of this set up?
I look to find a good solution for Conche to manage all from cockpit.
Many thanks,

thank you.
I realised that I should measure the perimeter after to post.
Indeed the Bed- It butyl tape that Marlyn has shown looks fantastically good.
Specially because it has no cure process. It’s possible to apply and then tighten the screws slowly along time. I got very interested on this solution but unfortunately the shipping and taxing is far too high and I don’t find the bed-it butyl in Europe.
And the issue here is to do the job one time with the right product.
So I’m to choose between Sika Marine 291 or a Butyl.
Have you used Scapa 3507 tape?
Thank you,
João

can you give me a tip for how many units of Bed-It Tape should I buy to rebed all the 11 windows?
Thank you,

September 21, 2018 at 21:58 #26407João de Almeida FarrachoParticipantHello,
Duncan did your friend 3D designer have designed a model for a seat?
Can you give me some tips to build Conche’s seat if you are building one please?
Another question for all please: How is it with star board tacks? Is it comfortable to go on the helm?
Thank you so much. I’m doing many works on Conche and keeen to go back in the water very soon 🙂

September 21, 2018 at 21:41 #26406João de Almeida FarrachoParticipantHello,
I have taken all windows out for repairing and reseal and I am about to set them back in place.
I am thinking to use a composed solution for waterproofing between the external window’s frames and fiber glass: Neoprene Strip as gasket+Maritime Sika Flex.
Do you have any suggestions?
What width and thickness of the neoprene strip shal I choose?
Thank you,

September 15, 2018 at 20:47 #26402João de Almeida FarrachoParticipantHello,
Conche misses an healm’s seat as well.
It has support hole on the hatch for a different seat solution.
I am keen to build a seat the closest to the original though.
Dear Duncan – Czarina Blue, once you might be building one do you have any designs?
It would be very helpful.
I am attaching some pics I have found of one Nich 38 for sale with details of the seat. Hope the owner doesn’t mind. It is for a good cause 🙂
Thank you,
João
And my hatch support .
Thank you,
February 17, 2018 at 00:29 #26252João de Almeida FarrachoParticipantHi Duncan,
I have watched this carefully on Conche.
My opinion is that is to close the wheel valve and fill the wing tank on the filler plug on top of this wing tank.
And independently to fill the main keel tank on the filler plug located on the port side deck.
This way you are not creating an additional column pressure on any piping joints in between the two diesel tanks.
Check if your wheel valve is functioning properly. On Conche I will need to replace it.
This you are able check just listening to. With the wing tank filled and with the valve closed you then may open the plug of the visit box of the keel tank and listen if you hear any diesel dripping on to the keel tank.
Hope this can help.
Greetings from Lisboa Portugal,
João
