Quote:I have recently purchased a Nicholson 38 with a Bermudan Ketch Rig called E Capoe.
She was brought back from the BVI Carrebean on a container ship by her previous owner as a project 5 yrs ago before losing momentum.
She is currently on the hard at Clyde Marina, Scotland UK.I’m still in the process of obtaining details and dont have any history at the moment apart from she was probably used as a charter boat in the BVI before becoming a bit delapidated and in need of a bit of TLC and ££££.
If you are aware of any second hand sails (just to get her home to Orkney UK as she has none) I would be most grateful.Welcome William. I hope you find the forum useful

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with the project.
Hull No. 33 was built in 1969, yard number 979 and Lloyds Office No. 336194, Sail No. 877Y. Originally named Sione she went through life named as such until 1979 when the litle information I have runs out. Her owners were P.E.P Gibbings, Juan Horns, F.A. Biggs and Michel Carol.
Best Wishes .. Peter

Thanks for that – I will need some luck but mostly information from members would be appreciated regarding refurbishment of the Facnor furling gear and where to source some second hand sails to get her home 350 miles by sea to start the serious restoration to the hull, rigging and sails and the interior etc.
Best Regards

Welcome,
I have two old genoas. One is a hank on sail so if you have an inner forestay it would serve. The other is for use with a furling gear though whether it will fit your foil, goodness knows. It also needs some sewing on the uv strip as far as I can remember. I have never used either sail. Cheers, Trevor

thanks for the response – I’m just coming to realise that most of the members are not just around the corner from me in Scotland. Anything that would get me home at this stage would be appreciated. There is no inner fore stay fitted as yet! Where are you in relation to Glasgow, UK and what price are you willing to part with the sail/s. Cheers William

I might be able to assist you with the loan of some sails I am sure that I have a mainsail that is in fair condition and would be fine to get you home.

Thanks WilliamJuly 25, 2012 at 15:14 #12101SualaParticipantHi William,
I used to be based at Fairlie Quay but am now in Kemer, Turkey having just completed the journey. I have lkeft a staysail with Sally at Jessail by oversight. You are welcom to see if you can find use for it. It attaches to the mizzen as a second chute. It is old and made of chute sail material. I have never used it. There is another Nic 38 based at Rhu who has a similar staysail and does use it. Look for him at Rhu marina. I am sure he would be most helpful perhaps in other ways as well. Very nice fellow. Brian
August 17, 2012 at 21:08 #12211Stroma PilotParticipantHi Brian
thanks for the help and response. I’m just back from Ardrossan complete with engine and standing rigging (boat still on hard standing)- wasted a week trying to get the engine going and ended up with a broken timing belt and other associated poblems. I put my main sail up for washing and to be restiched by Sally so will ask about your sail when I get back down. The whle boat needs something and is still a learning curve to me so all input greatfully received. Thanks in advance and will keep you posted. William
