Back in 2001 we took delivery of a new radar unit and fixed it to the mizzen mast of Voltair. Robin and I had a splendid trip using the new “eyes” up inside the passage at the western side of Jura which leads through impossibly narrow channels to a loch, which almost reaches the eastern side of the island. By the time we got there it was getting dark, so we had to do the return journey by radar, and anchored in pitch blackness between two rocks back out in the less dangerous part of the sound.
A few months later, Voltair was ripped from her moorings in a storm and cast up on the island of Kerrera. The aluminium bracket fixing the radome to the mast broke, and the radome fell to the ground. It’s all in a large box in Worcs DY12, and I would like to get rid of it. If it still works, it is worth £300 at least. Does anyone fancy having a go? Payment by results…. Collect or I may be able to deliver, depending on your address.
