Looks like it is time to retire my old B&G Speed/Log (Grey box circa 1973) and probably my Hornet 4 with its displays and sensors.

Pulled the log out this afternoon and the little impeller assembly came off in my hands. The fixing screws are just coppery nubs now and there is no way of replacing them short of drilling them out and rethreading the holes. That assumes I don’t break something during the process.

Also the hornet 4 has not worked properly for a couple of years – even after changing the internal battery. It just displays random characters all the time. Not such an issue because the masthead unit hasn’t worked since I bought the boat!

I’ve a Raymarine C60 depth system integrated with the autohelm (also Raymarine), Its probably time to get the wind and speed bits for that and get the autohelm to handle the different wind conditions properly.

I’ve also a Tacktick wind gauge which works surprisingly well.

    Open to suggestions …
