Has anyone renewed their wiper motor from the original, which mine is and has now died.
Any ideas or suggestions for compatible replacement would be welcome.many thanks

Before you throw the old one away, make sure you have tried to clean the spaces between the electric connectors on the rotating part of the engine (don’t know what it is called). I considered changing mine, but I found that it is a very solid construction, and that by cleaning it every second or third year, it works fine. (I actually also had to improvise to keep the static electric connectors in place. Has worked for many years now.)

June 28, 2012 at 06:58 #11891ModeratorKeymasterWe just added a wiper motor this spring – the PO had removed the original some time ago. We have the motor hardware attached, but have not had time to wire it up yet, so cannot say how it works yet.
Since we are in the US, availability is a little different, but we chose an AFI-500 motor with 110 degree sweep (self-parking) and 2.5″ spindle length, 10-14″ adjustable arm, and a 14″ blade. We are just using a simple on/off switch. Cost for this barebones setup was less than $100. I think we will be happy with the sweep pattern. There are so many choices once you start studying this – arm length, sweep angle, blade length, motor power, sweep style – it was a bit overwhelming, but I eventually decided that we didn’t need a powerful motor (8 NM will do) because the windscreen is not really that big. And since it is wider than tall, pantographic doesn’t seem to useful.
There is another wiper posting, where Jeff talks about how he used a vetus motor. You can read that here. He chose a pantographic mount, so maybe Jeff can speak up and state how the pantographic works for him.

I think you mean the commutator which the brushes connect to when it is running, I have not opened it other than for the gearbox end which seems fine, i will certainly try your suggestion, I still have it of course, will let you know the results.
Many thanks for your reply

I have serviced the motor as you suggested, and is running fine. The shaft from the gearbox was siezed in the tube, (treaded outside) from the gearbox, the whole thing was moving! stripped the box and pressed the siezed shaft out following a soaking in WD40, works as good as new, and respayed body makes it look like it also.
Best wishes
