Participanti realy hate stainless see the crevis corrosion your bolt was just about to fail
replacing stainless parts not inspection as they look ok visably regulary is a must
at most 5 yearsMay 27, 2012 at 09:46 #11731Happy Dolphin
Participanti would think pan is well strong enough i stand in mine and it doesent give
the 3/4 inch extra height RnD will make no difference with your flexi shaft couplings
i hope they are the type to take forward and reverse prop thrust thoMay 8, 2012 at 08:37 #11601Happy Dolphin
ParticipantDo try hard to get mounts with same bolt centres on engine beds as changing these on the bed is usually very difficult.
As you have flexible couplings (which are necessary on fixed shaft/flexible engine mounts) height will not be an issue
to check alighnment (not nessasary)you will need a longer dummy shaft with coupling in positionmounts can be got from Lancing Marine UK (google it)
my boat has had a perk 4108 in at one time but now fitted with yanmar 4 cylMay 8, 2012 at 08:05 #11591Happy Dolphin
Participanti have replaced all my standing rigging,
yes ream out to 1/2 inch is good idea not a lot of metal removed
but i strongly advise replacing intermediates and all turnbuckles as these are more likley to fail than the uppers wire
replacing stainless parts is a must they fail without warning I KNOWJanuary 12, 2012 at 22:00 #10931Happy Dolphin
Participantif your not in rush to fit one i will photo mine next time at boat. very simple been on for 20000 miles quick release locks wheel solid very simalar to one in photo but a lot simpler to fabricate and to fit

Participanttiming setting all diesels running at lowish revs or tick over out of gear, if smoke is white advance it if smoke is black retard it simple

Participanthappy dolphin has hydrovane love it its the only choice.
link simple tiller autopilot to it perfectly in less than 1 hour used this system for 5 years over 15000 miles including 2 x atlantic tripsAugust 20, 2011 at 01:23 #10031Happy Dolphin
Participantthe stop control gets far less use but can get brittle with age
here is another tip
if its hard to start see if its injecting only a small amount of fuel if it is
remove fuel inlet pipe
remove the hexagon unit it was screwed into carefully
remove small nylon filter
remove the barrel under this very gently note position and way up of parts (only 3)
using brasso or Tcut and two matches re lap small piston (this sticks causing poor fuel flow)
as befor wash hands and parts and reassemble a touch of grease will hold bits in place
this is another $1000 job about 1/2 hours workAugust 7, 2011 at 21:38 #9921Happy Dolphin
Participantfit a T piece on fuel inlet side of injector pump conect a vacume/presure druck gauge and constantly monotor your system usuual is 2 to 4 lbs psi
vacume is faultAugust 7, 2011 at 21:30 #9911Happy Dolphin
Participantfrom memory again if you remove just outer casting retaining bolt then i think spindle will then pull out spindle has groove cut in it to retain it when bolt is in

ParticipantI use a hydrovane love it. Would not be without it.
When not in use I always lock rudder with pin and wind vane with its pin also
Manoeuvring etc seems no problem
I also use it for autopilot steering as well
Autohelm steering to this is both easy to fit and a dream to use smallest unit will do it as little power needed to turn rudder but go for one with controls separate then you can put them near chart table
Latest version is now by Raytheon marine SmartPilot X-5 Tiller system for sailing vessels up to 13,000lb (6,000kg) fully laden displacement
I think mine is old ST 2000 done well over 16000 miles
If your boats steering has no locking clutch you will need to fit oneAugust 6, 2011 at 21:36 #9861Happy Dolphin
Participantyes remove them from memnory it has to lift 3/4 inch

ParticipantOops again this is for hydraulic governed pump but if its mechanical governed very similar but you have to fiddle with governor spring to unhook it when top is unscrewed (nothing major)
Most diesel mechanics will not strip a pump thoAugust 5, 2011 at 01:36 #9811Happy Dolphin
Participantoops you may need to remove manifold/heat exchanger for good access

ParticipantYes, repair easy and cheap
In at nutshell it needs new O-ring
No need to remove pump from engine
Disconnect throttle and stop cable completely from pump
Remove two retaining bolts (may be star type heads) holding spindle unit/casting lift upwared carefully and remove unit taking care not to tear gasket
The spindle will now pull out from casting revealing worn O-ring
Replace and re assemble
The casting gets worn oval by spindle and in severe cases needs replacing eventually
Note absolute cleanliness is needed wash hands tools parts before you start and as you proceed (sorry in diesel or paraffin or petrol)July 31, 2011 at 20:39 #9761Happy Dolphin
Participantno tast of bleach after purging at all

Participant2 tips
you can hammer packing smaller no problem
dont tighten till back in water let it drip for a while if to tight it will score shaft and burnJuly 17, 2011 at 22:19 #9661Happy Dolphin
Participanti use a hydrovane its very good tho it makes mizzen obsolete so a longer mast would be good about 3ft longer. but no to staysail for me as tacking will be a handfull on my own

ParticipantHi I got the first name wrong (my memory) sail well gone now my conclusion is not positive or negative its likely to be 133 but it could be it had a second hand sail
I have a ssr reg but number is not same as British reg no you give
Will investigate more
ps 2009 sailed from canaries to Turkey single handed
2010 sailed from Greece to Spain
2011 just finished cross/round Atlantic cruise
Back home now for a much needed refitJuly 17, 2011 at 21:43 #9641Happy Dolphin
Participantfor all of us break into fuel supply just before injector pump (pipe furthest from 3 mounting studs)fit a T piece and then put a motorcycle vacume/presure gauge to the T branch
under normal conditions it should read 4lbs positive presure any less and this indicates pump or blockage problems on a filtre requiring replacement a gradual drop 2 to 8 inch negative will be evident on a faulty pump it can fluctuate i have used these on my boats and landrovers for years and saves tons on unesasary filtre changes and warns in advance of dirty and or blocked system -
