While in Georgetown, Great Exuma we saw this rather sad example, Topspin. Unfortunately I dare not board her to see the maker’s plate so I do not have her hull number.
Later I spoke to a gentleman who said he was looking after her for an absentee owner. The owner has not visited for many years but sends a regular remittance for basic care.
That isn’t pretty, but I wish Orion looked that good, when I found her. Orion’s owner hadn’t seen her in more than 5 years and had NOT provided for her upkeep. The hardtop was gone. The yard housing her had built a ramp down to the aft cabin, and was using the main rig, as a derrick crane, to lift motors out of other boats.
I noticed this post and dread that happening to Mary Kate. David died suddenly in September and I have to find a new owner for her. I wish I felt I could continue solo but age and wisdom decree not.
She is on the hard in Vliho, Lefkas.
If anyone knows of a seeker for a sloop rigged Nicholson 38, please let me know.
Sorry to hear this – it’s something we can all relate to as we get older.
Best of luck selling Mary Kate. Hopefully this forum will be a good resource for potential buyers, lots of good information, and clearly a lot of dedicated, enthusiastic owners! And hopefully it will make it clear that the Nic 38 is a well built, blue sea ready boat, ready to take a person anywhere.
