Hi, we are replacing the fuel lines on Rainshadow because they were starting to weep. We hired a local diesel shop to do the work, and they are having a lot of trouble getting fittings to fit the engine – specifically the inlet to the lift pump, and the outlet banjo bolt to the return line. They’ve taken the parts (including our spare lift pump and the banjo bolt) and cannot find parts to mate to those. The local hose shop can’t either, and they even say the local Perkins dealer does not recognize them.
Can anyone tell us specifically what those fittings are? Again, the fittings are the inlet to the lift pump (which runs from a Racor filter and an electrical pump we added inline), and then from the outlet banjo bolt to the return line to the tank.
The engine is a pre-1974 we think, with a strange engine number which is 108U-51457 on the block, and the PO left a note that the build list is 12237. Sometimes the dealer recognizes those numbers, sometimes they do not. Perkins changed their numbering system 1975 so people get confused by the old number. Because it is 108U, we know it was built in the UK, and that leads people here to claim “oh, the problem is it’s british thread”. Well, we know that’s not true, the manual states all threads are SAE and we’ve not found any other non-sae threads on the engine.
If you have any ideas, please let us know!

This is the company I use for all my diesel parts, they are very helpful and would respond to an email or a call, they are listed here for discounts on first order.

We don’t have time to spare – Thanksgiving is this week and nothing happens fast, and then Tuesday next week we are gone until May. Our mechanic can get it completed Monday if we go for the local kludge. In effect they are making an adapter – from the UNF on the lift pump to a copper tube to a JIC fitting they can connect the hose to. All annoyingly complicated, but hopefully it will work. At least I now know where to go to get the right parts….
Thanks,
