<p>Rainshadow is hull #126 from 1974 and began with a 4-108. Not sure when the change was made.</p>
<p>Another difference I&#8217;ve noticed about people&#8217;s comments on engines<br />
&#8211; Rainshadow has a Sherwood G65 raw water pump. The 20 kW (27 HP) is enough to get the boat off and into the marina. I have three 6.8 kWh batteries (LiFePO4) only for the engine that give me enough capacity for a half day cruising if the wind goes down.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m suddenly doubting myself. You refer to your 4.108 as the original engine. I thought the 4.107 was the original engine, and the 4.108 must therefore be the second engine in my boat. Caol Ila is Hull No. 22 and launched in 1969, so it is a reasonably early boat. Maybe the earlier and later boats had different engines. <p>when we overhauled our 4108 in Colombia we also looked at the gearbox and the mechanic identified degradation of the aluminium between the oil and coolant water zones. His solution was to dremel lightly then make good with cold weld epoxy (brands ‘JB Weld’, ‘Permatex Cold Weld’).<br />

<p>Our gearbox works well and we haven&#8217;t had any problems with it, except that now it looks like a little seawater is leaking into the reduction gear (i.e., the rear compartment) making the oil in there look a bit like dark milk.</p>

<p>We found 127 in Bradenton fl, in poor shape. She had sank on the hard many times, but was still structurally intact.</p>
<p>We strapped a poorly running outboard on her ass, and promptly proceeded to ft myers. Aside from the engine problems, she sailed great.</p>

<p>Originally hull #127 was names &#8220;Spirit of the Wind&#8221;</p>
<p>Next name as Fuddy-Duddy, when owned by the previous owner.</p>
<p>Andy has quite a tale to tell about Zhader-Duddy and the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.</p>

<p>This year, we had the gasket fail on the top sender unit, but we were able to repair that ourselves.
