Recently I had cause to leave Alexina in Grenada and join a friend in the British Virgin Isles to sail his yacht to Panama. Unfortunately his yacht is not a Nicholson but a Mikado, still, it’s a centre cockpit ketch so I felt at home.

Arriving in Trellis Bay, Tortola I was surprised to see a Nicholson 38 lying on a mooring. The surprise was not finding a Nicholson 38 but that this one appeared to be missing not only the windscreen and cockpit cover but also the mizzen.

    Is there a story here?

I wonder if this is one the Halmatic hulls made after #134 – Jeremy said there were 10 hulls left when C&N stopped production of the Nic38, and so the hulls were fitted out by others. Undoubtedly the windscreen would have been very expensive. Same rationale might apply to the missing mizzen.
